Rippon sees their role in the guardianship and respect for the land, across all areas of their work, from the biodynamic principles that guide all aspects of their farming.
Therefore taking this philosophy into account, we have designed a system using a sustainable carbon neutral 50 kW wood boiler and buffering system to drive their infloor, radiators and domestic hot water system.
Koia Architects decided on a relocated villa to convert to their Queenstown offices and required an energy efficient and effective heating solution for what can be a cold area of Queenstown. The solution we designed was to retrofit underfloor pipework to the existing timber floor, and heat this by an energy efficient air to water heatpump. To increase the efficiency, there is also a smart room by room control that also allows remote access.
These overseas clients wanted to ensure they had whole house heating similar to their American homes. We worked with the architect from the concept stage to design and deliver infloor heating in a house with a lower floor concrete slab and a timber floor on joists on the upper level. In this project the air to water heatpumps heat the infloor and the domestic hotwater. A smart heating app allows the clients to monitor and manage their home room by room from remote locations.
An innovative 48 apartment development designed by Koia Architects. The challenge was to ventilate and control condensation in each of the very airtight apartments. The solution we designed was a full energy recovery fresh air system which included bathroom ventilation and heat recovery.
Horseshoe Bend is a multi building rural retreat, that required heating, cooling, domestic hot water and swimming pool heating, in an energy sensible and planet friendly way.
We designed a district heating scheme to service the multi buildings from one central high efficiency gasificiation wood boiler backed up with a condensing diesel boiler. Cooling loads are controlled via ducted air conditioning incorporating an energy recovery ventilation system.
New Zermatt Lodge is a five level exclusive retreat. The brief was for a full mechanical services design, and we engineered the solution utilising a heat recovery heatpump system providing infloor heating and cooling, domestic hot water heating, ducted air conditioning and energy recovery fresh air system. The advantage of this VRF type system, is that heat recovered while cooling is re-used in the heating systems, increasing the overall system efficiency. Additionally the client required his wine collection to be protected which we achieved with a fully conditioned wine room.
The clients brief was to have a residence with low ongoing operating costs. To fulfil this requirement, our design incorporated infloor and domestic hotwater heating via air to water heatpumps, assisted by solar hot water heating panels. A smart app based control system, assists the energy efficiency while also providing remote access.
The clients’ requirement was for infloor heating via a ground source heatpump. This system provides good heatpump efficiencies, augmented by individual room control.
The client’s brief for the Highlands Motorsport Museum, was to be able to heat and cool a large volume commercial building without interfering with the exhibition space and layouts which constantly change. The solution we engineered provides invisible infloor heating or cooling served, by 110 kW commercial heatpump system.
This space also incorporates a café and commercial kitchen. We designed and installed the commercial kitchen hood extract and make-up air ventilation systems incorporating air to air heat pump heating and cooling.
The Gate, formerly the Golden Gate Lodge, underwent major redevelopment of the bars, restaurant and kitchen facilities. CHS’s brief was to design and install commercial kitchen ventilation systems as well as air conditioning and ventilation to the remodelled restaurant, café and toilet facilities. This was provided by utilising a heat recovery heatpump system connected to multiple heatpump indoor units with energy recovery ventilation systems. The heat recovery can heat and cool different areas of the building by reusing heat produced in the cooling process to simultaneously heat other areas.
The Wanaka Recreation Centre required heating, ventilation and air conditioning of the sports hall, changing facilities and administration areas. This was provided via a combination of infloor heating, served by a roof mounted commercial heatpump system, heatpump air conditioning, and energy recovery ventilation systems.
A remote working farm with original gold rush era buildings, redeveloped as an exclusive life style lodge with multiple accommodation buildings which can be completely isolated for extended periods by winter weather conditions. In consultation with the owner and their architect, we designed and installed district multi building heating scheme, including infloor heating and cooling, air conditioning, domestic hotwater heating and de-icing/heating to paths, decks, seating and other outdoor areas. These systems are served by a variety of energy sources, including utilising the excess power from the onsite hydro electric scheme with air to water heatpumps and backed up by a diesel boiler and generator. The control system we designed ensures that the excess electricity is used primarily as the heatsource, but is seamlessly back up by the diesel boiler. The control system is also accessible remotely, including giving the owner the outdoor temperature (as low as -15C in winter, and as high as 35C in summer).
The client’s brief was for a house that was energy efficient, warm and welcoming, and with the ability to run off grid for prolonged periods with minimal loss of function. Our design for this includes infloor, radiator and domestic hot water heating with a high efficiency wood fired gasification boiler for it’s heatsource. The domestic hot water is also heated by an evacuated panel on roof system.
Solar Photo Voltaic Power backed up with a LFP battery storage system provides the sustainable off grid solution.
